Litigation often is prohibitively expensive, even for the well-heeled.  Managing the costs and inefficiencies associated with litigation is important strategically and as a matter of access to justice.  This is where Court-Appointed Neutrals (what Fed. R. Civ. P. and (D.C.) Super. Ct. Civ. R. 53 call "Masters") come in.

Join APABA-DC for a conversation about Court-Appointed Neutrals.  We’ll talk about what they do now, what their potential applications are, and how you can get involved.

Merril Hirsh.  Merril is the Executive Director of the Academy of Court-Appointed Neutrals.  He also is the principal of HirshADR PLLC and the Law Office of Merril Hirsh PLLC.  Prior to that, he was a partner with Troutman Sanders LLP.  He started his career as a trial attorney with the Civil Division of the United States Department of Justice.

Sid Kanazawa.  Sid is a mediator for Alternative Resolution Centers ("ARC"), where is a "raving fan of online mediation and its potential."  Before that, he was a partner with McGuireWoods LLP in their Los Angeles office.

Susan Jin Davis.  Susan is the Social Impact Officer for Al Roker Entertainment, Inc.  Before that, she was the Chief Sustainability Officer for Comcast Corporation, where she also held a number of other roles.
